Description
With these Firearm Safety Information Cards, your audience will learn how to be safe and responsible gun owners. As proper firearm safety can mean the difference between life and death. The card notes that a few simple precautions can prevent tragedies.
One part of being a responsible gun owner is knowing and following the rules of gun safety. Treat every gun as if it is loaded and could fire at any time. Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction at all times. Unload guns when they are not in use. However, 30% of gun owners keep their firearms loaded and unlocked.
Gun owners should take all the necessary precautions to ensure that their firearms do not accidentally discharge. These precautions include keeping fingers away from the trigger unless shooting, not relying solely on the gun’s safety, checking the chamber or magazine prior to loading the gun, and regularly servicing the firearm. These rules also discuss general safe handling instructions like wearing ear and eye protection, learning about the firearm’s mechanical details, and not handling guns while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
An estimate of about 50% of households in the United States own firearms. This suggests that even though many children are not raised in a household with a gun, there’s still a good chance that they may come across one while at a friend or family member’s home. If they find an unattended firearm know to keep their distance, not to touch it and find an adult. Many children’s ideas about guns come from how they see them portrayed in movies and television. So it’s important that they know the difference between fantasy and reality.
Storage, Safety Equipment and Firearm Training.
Keep firearms and ammunition under lock and key. Safety locks and loaded chamber indicators can offer additional measures of security. Inexperienced firearm owners can also take advantage of training programs offered by police departments or local NRA chapters.
