Description
This bold and beautifully designed “Fire Ready Every Day” information card will make it easy for you to get your fire safety message across. Featuring the popular Firefighter Ace, this handout teaches children how to prepare for a fire emergency.
It begins by discussing the importance of smoke alarms. Smoke alarms provide early fire warnings that are loud enough so that everyone can hear them. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of the home. And it’s important to maintain smoke alarms, too. They should be tested every month and the batteries need to be replaced every six months.
Having a fire escape plan is a critical part of being fire ready. Families should draw a map of their home that shows two ways out of every room. The map should also show the family’s Safe Meeting Place.
Another crucial element of fire readiness is fire drills. During drills at school, children need to listen to their teachers and refrain from making jokes or chatting with their classmates. Fire drills at home are also extremely important. Families should practice fire drills at least twice a year and during the day and the night. Home fire drills should include practicing the different ways out of the home.
The bottom of the card reminds children to never go back inside a burning building.
